Japanese Haori - Hexagon

Sale price$198.00

A Haori is a traditional Japanese open front jacket measuring hip or thigh length. Evolving from samurai wear, it acts as a lightweight cardigan traditionally worn over kimonos, but here in the U.S. these are beautiful over jeans and a tee shirt or over a dress for fancier occasions. Like a kimono, they feature wide three-quarter sleeves and are one of a kind made from silk.

The hexagon design of this haori is called kikkō, the tortoiseshell. The tortoise lives ten thousand years, so the pattern reads as a wish for a long life; it's traditionally worn for weddings and milestone birthdays.

I purchased these in Takayama, a town that's been doing this kind of textile work since the early 1600's.

Measurements are 30" long and 46" around at the bust.

For reference: I am 5'4" and wear a size 8/Medium.
